Hamm Clinic is passionate about providing a vital safety net for our St. Paul community. Over 80% of Hamm Clinic’s clients report developmental trauma and more than 50% share they have experienced three or more such traumas. Experiences include domestic and sexual violence, child abuse and neglect, torture and persecution based on their beliefs, or acute traumas such as car accidents or natural disasters. In addition to these traumas, many of our clients also experience racial trauma, hate crimes, and/or oppression based on their identities.
Soon, we will be moving to the first trauma-informed outpatient mental health care space of its kind in St. Paul. Hamm Clinic has created this to ensure that our environment complements our clinical work. Every detail of the clinic is designed with clients who experience trauma in mind – the layout, materials, finishes, and artwork are all being selected to be trauma-informed. We cannot wait to give you a look this summer!
Hamm Clinic is designing our new space to be congruent with our expertise and dedication to trauma informed care. A few of those items are: • rounded corners • intuitive navigation • extra doors • ADA bathrooms • calming finishes, color, and lighting • relaxation areas to promote calm and security
In this well-designed space, people will access a variety of services that are all deeply trauma-informed. We work together to develop a comprehensive plan that incorporates all the ways that people heal – physically, culturally, emotionally, and spiritually. We are here to support people in seeking: • Safety and stability, both immediate physical safety and emotional safety • Time to process experiences and grieve losses and transitions • Reconnect with their body, values and identity, and with a supportive community
We want clients to feel safe and welcome in our new space. We hope that being in an environment specifically designed to promote their comfort will speed their healing.
