David Ruess (he/him) is a Psychotherapist at Hamm Clinic and a pre-licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. He received his master’s degree in Counseling and Psychological Services from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and has advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DB1T). David integrates approaches through a trauma-informed lens that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, culturally responsive care, and humanistic and existential therapy into his clinical work.

David enjoys working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. He commonly works with clients navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, life transitions, and communication and relationship concerns. His therapeutic style is collaborative, compassionate, insight-oriented, and educational, while also incorporating humor when appropriate.  He strives to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel safe, accepted, encouraged, and understood.

At Hamm Clinic, David provides individual psychotherapy services both in-person and via telehealth. He has a particular interest in providing EMDR therapy for individuals processing trauma and trauma-related experiences and collaborates with psychiatrists as part of an interdisciplinary approach to care. He also hopes to facilitate therapy groups in the future.

Outside of his clinical work, David enjoys training for triathlons at a slow but steady pace, backpacking, spending time with friends, watching movies, reading science fiction, and exploring the arts.
