Josiane Carriazo, MA (She/Her) is a bilingual psychotherapist at Hamm Clinic, providing services in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. She received her Master’s in Counseling and Psychological Services from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Josiane was born and raised in Brazil, where she pursued her bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology. This background has equipped her with a deep understanding of communication, which she applies in her therapeutic practice. She is particularly adept at addressing equity, inclusion, social justice, and systemic barriers affecting marginalized communities in public and private health settings.
As a psychotherapist, Josiane is deeply committed to meeting clients where they are in life. She strives to provide a therapeutical environment that is not only safe and welcoming but also inclusive and warm. This commitment stems from her belief that a safe and inclusive environment is essential for clients to explore their life journey and experience as a human. Josiane believes that each person’s experiences in life are different in this world due to the singularities of events in their own story. She is interested in understanding how the human body-mind makes sense of past and present lived experiences, the impact of early childhood experience and family narratives, the exploration of individuals identity, patterns, emotions, and behaviors, and the impact of cultural and systemic barriers, among many other life obstacles that interfere with one’s feeling alive, connected to themselves, to their identity and life purpose.
Josiane’s theoretical approach is relational, psychodynamic, mindfulness, person-centered, and trauma-responsive. Josiane is also trained in Narrative Exposure Therapy. She enjoys working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and is passionate about supporting immigrants and their families in navigating the challenges of adapting to a new country and culture.  Josiane’s approach is characterized by humility, collaboration, and above all, respect for clients’ views of healing and growth.
