Rachel Banen (she/her) is a graduate student at the University of St. Thomas School of Social Work, where she is pursuing a career as a psychotherapist. Rachel graduated from Macalester College with a degree in Political Science and Legal Studies. She most recently interned at the Interprofessional Center for Counseling and Legal Services, where she provided case management services with refugees and asylum seekers. Her previous professional experiences range from teaching English in Spain to founding a college access program to wrenching as a bike mechanic.

Rachel believes in the power of relationships in healing and aims to utilize an anti-oppressive, non-judgmental approach. Rachel’s professional interests include: identity development and exploration; understanding power dynamics in relationships with respect to gender, sexuality, and race; and managing depression, anxiety, and trauma.

In her free time, Rachel likes to plan her next bike packing adventure, watch documentaries, and make dinner with friends.
