Sonam is a clinical trainee intern at Hamm and is a doctoral student (PsyD) in counseling psychology at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Sonam has a variety of experience providing mental health crisis care, short term care, and long-term care. She is also a licensed alcohol and drug counselor.

Sonam’s multicultural lens helps her to prioritize the therapeutic relationship while helping clients face the unique challenges of life while honoring their various identities and values. She uses a range of evidence-informed practices to help clients navigate the complexities of life in a variety of cultural, gendered, and generational experiences. Sonam works to foster a relationship that allows clients to become empowered to confidently manage their challenges and advocate for themselves. Some of the techniques she utilizes are mindfulness, CBT, visualization, and grounding techniques. She has experience working with anxiety, addiction, depression, trauma, and identity exploration.

Sonam believes in the healing power of being heard and human connection. Her goal is to help clients create fuller, healthier relationships and lives by identifying barriers to healthy functioning, unlearning trauma responses, and improving coping skills.
